What is the Town Planning Commission (TPC)?
The TPC generally meets once a month on the second Monday and is charged with hearing and making recommendations regarding applications for land use reviews, including site plan review, conditional use permits, variances, and land subdivisions. In addition, the TPC makes recommendations on planning decisions, including proposed re-zonings, zoning code amendments, and amendments to the comprehensive plan.
The responsibility for local land use decisions can be divided into two functions:
• planning
• zoning
In carrying out its planning functions, the TPC seeks broad public involvement in the process and tries to keep its activities open and inclusive.
In carrying out the zoning functions, the TPC ensures a fair and open process by following MN Statutes and Town Zoning Ordinance for public notice and decision-making. Members must scrupulously avoid taking sides on an application before the evidence is heard and must avoid discussing a pending application with an applicant, proponents or opponents outside the context of the public hearing.
TPC review of development applications must follow the procedures set forth in ordinances and decisions must be based on the standards for review established in ordinance. Open meeting law statutes apply to the TPC and all meetings of the TPC are publicly noticed and minutes are kept.

Town Planning Commission meetings are open to the pubic.
Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and all members of the public are asked to sign in upon attending. If you have an item for the agenda, please email the clerk. Deadlines depend on topic. If you have an application you wish to have heard, deadline is 24 days prior to the meeting. There are statutory guidelines that must be followed, so contacting the Town Clerk for assistance with dates is highly recommended. If you wish to speak before the board, it is appreciated if you can have your request submitted to the clerk by the Wednesday before the meeting.
In case of a necessary rescheduling of a regular Town Board meeting, there will be a notice posted both on the front of the Township Hall as well as online and at Becker City Hall. The Patriot newspaper publishes township notices.
