Mailboxes

Current Becker Township Standard for mailboxes is the Swing-Away Mailbox Support.

If your mailbox is put in according to township standards and damaged during township maintenance activities, it may be repaired/replaced as needed by contacting the township.  Neither the township nor their contractor(s) are responsible for mailbox damage if the mailbox was not installed according to township standards.  The guidelines for proper mailbox setup/installation are available by clicking the link button below.

Residents are to shovel snow out from around their mailboxes after each snowfall.  Snow buildup under mailboxes is often one of the chief factors that leads to mailboxes being hit.   You also help out both the snowplows and mail carriers by keeping your mailbox shoveled out all winter.  Thank You!

If you have trouble accessing the site, you may email the township clerk for a copy of these standards.

Becker Township maintains a supply of mailbox kits on-hand.  Contact the clerk by email (clerk@beckertownship.org) or phone 763-261-5301 for availability.    We maintain these for use by our township residents.

Checks are preferred.  Cash is accepted in exact amount only.  No credit cards at this time.

Mailbox Standard information
  • The Township recommends installing the swingsafe mailbox support system which is available for sale at the Township Hall.  The price is $120 and does not include the mailbox.  You may be asked for ID as this program is for Becker Township Residents only.
  • All mailboxes shall be installed in an approved manner as required by the Township.
  • The Township requires that the bottom of the mailbox be installed between 42 inches to 48 inches from the ground surface.
  • The Township requires that the front of the mailbox be installed even with the back edge of the road shoulder.  This will keep the road shoulder free of obstructions and allow snow removal and other road maintenance activities to be completed.
  • Mailboxes that are not installed in accordance with these requirements that are damaged as a result of the Township maintenance activities such as mowing, snow removing, tree trimming, etc. shall be the responsibility of the property owner.

When new mailbox supports are planned in a project, our township engineer alerts the post office so they are aware that mailboxes may be turned or removed.  The post office will still deliver your mail and is aware that mailboxes may not be as they normally are for a time period.  This is a normal procedure.  Please attend board meetings if you have further questions.
