Animal Permits

In general, pets (such as dogs and cats) do not require licenses or permits in Becker Township.  

If you have four or more dogs over six months of age that are owned or kept for private enjoyment, you need to obtain a Private Kennel Permit.  This Annual permit is available by clicking on the box to the right, filling it out and returning it to Township Hall.  Please contact us with any questions.  

How can you know if you qualify for a Private Kennel permit for your dogs?  Answer the following questions:

• Do you train dogs, other than your own, on-site and if so, do they stay overnight?
• Do you board dogs that do not belong to you?
• Do you average more than three (3) litters of puppies per year?
• Do you care for dogs on-site during the day that do not belong to you? (animal day-care)
• Do you provide dog grooming to animals that do not belong to you?
• Do your dogs live somewhere other than inside your home?
• Do you routinely foster dogs?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, it is likely that either a Conditional Use Permit or an Interim Use Permit is required.  Consult Becker Township Zoning Ordinances or a Staff Member to help determine the proper permitting path.
