There are five (5) building permit applications to choose from. 

1. Residential
2. Commercial
3. Septic
4. OTC (maintenance items like re-roofing/re-siding/windows/etc.  See list below)
5. Carefree Country Club. 

​The permit applications no longer contain a multi-page checklist.  They now list what must accompany the application on the back of the permit.  A summary of this listing may be found in our Permit Help Sheet or by clicking the Building Permit Requirements Reference Guide Button Above.  All documentation is due at the time of permit application submission.  Permits may be rejected if all required documentation is not included.

Common Permit Questions
​

• Do I need a certificate of survey?  Maybe.  See the FAQ sheets related to Certificate of Survey and Certificate of Survey Exemption Form.
• How big of an accessory structure can I build?  In general, take your acreage times 43,560 times .03.  If you live in the Agriculture zoning district, use the multiplier of .04.  
• Do you really reject permits if there is missing information?  Yes.
• What are typical setbacks from the sides of my property?  20' from the sides and 25' from the rear.  Road setbacks vary depending on jurisdiction and type of roadway.
• Do I need a septic compliance inspection before building?  For all Residential and Commercial permits you need a compliant septic report or new/updated installation dated within the past 10 years.  See Septic Requirements FAQ to the left.

​Did you know?  Township (and County) ordinances require septic tanks to be pumped every three years?

​Do you intend to General your own build?  Be sure to review the General Building Permit Information in depth and reference
during your building process.  Do not forget as-built surveys are typically required and are at the expense of the homeowner.

Becker Township Ag Building Permit Exemption Certification
This form is provided for those who qualify for an agriculture based exemption by statute.  Submission of this form is required before proceeding with your Ag building.

Please review the form closely before submitting as we do follow through with code enforcement if the building use changes.  Change of use permitting can get very tedious and costly.    Ag Exemption Certification
