Fire Sign or Road Sign Issues

Summer 2022: Becker Township will be replacing all fire signs in the township.  The old signs will remain the property of Becker Township.

First round will include placement of fire signs and photographs of their appearance placed into property files.  Some fire signs will require a second visit in order to bring them into compliance with Township Standards.

Please do not change your fire sign location or height once the new signs are in place.

  • The Township will install the first fire number sign at no cost to the property owner and will coordinate all activities associated with the installation of the first fire number sign.
  • Replacement costs for signs damaged by the property owner are the responsibility of the property owner.  Fire number signs damaged during Township maintenance activities will be replaced by the Township.
  • The Township requires that the bottom of the fire number sign be installed a minimum of 42 inches above the ground surface.
  • The Township requires that the front edge of the fire number sign be installed no closer than the back edge of the road shoulder.  This will keep the road shoulder free of obstructions and allow snow removal and other road maintenance activities to be completed.
  • Summer/Fall of 2022 - all fire signs are to be upgraded and township contractors will be bringing them into compliance.  Do not change fire sign placement.
  • Homeowners may not realize that moving fire signs to the lower front of their mailboxes could create a safety hazard for themselves.  By placing those signs at a lower location, the signs are not as easily noticed and could cause a delay in emergency services.
  • Another item to note for those placing fire signs below their mailboxes, fire signs placed in front of mailboxes become the responsibility of the property owner if they are damaged (including if it is by snow removal).  Replacement of those signs removed from their original location becomes a cost to the homeowner.
